Method
How a retained search runs
Engagement and scorecard
We meet the hiring executive, key stakeholders, and where appropriate the board committee. Together we write the scorecard: outcomes for year one, the experience that predicts them, and the leadership qualities the team needs.
Market map
A researcher maps every organization and leader relevant to the role across Canada and, where useful, the US. You see the map and can add or exclude names before we approach anyone.
Approach and assessment
Confidential approaches to the long list. Structured, competency-based interviews with the partner. Weekly written reports on who we have spoken to and what we are hearing about the role and the offer.
Shortlist
Three to four candidates with full assessment reports, compensation expectations, and references to be taken at the appropriate stage.
Selection, offer, onboarding
We facilitate panel interviews, referencing, and offer negotiation, and agree an onboarding plan with the appointed leader. Structured check-ins at 30, 90, and 180 days.
Questions
Executive search FAQ
How is executive search different from your retained permanent search?
Scope and depth. Executive search includes a full market map, a dedicated researcher, stakeholder interviews, written assessment reports, and post-appointment check-ins. It is designed for roles where the cost of a wrong appointment is measured in years, not months.
Can you run a confidential replacement?
Yes. Confidential searches are common. We describe the opportunity without naming your organization until a candidate has been assessed and has agreed to proceed under NDA.
Do you assess board and governance experience?
Where the role reports to a board or committee, yes. We interview for governance experience, public accountability, and, in the healthcare public sector, familiarity with Broader Public Sector and accountability agreement obligations.
